2020protour to take on YUGC at Ganton

A team featuring Yorkshire’s best professional golfers – including several DP World Tour winners – is set to face off against the county’s leading amateurs in a head-to-head match at Ganton on Monday April 7.

The two 12-strong teams will face off from 1pm, with spectators invited to watch the 24 top players compete over the historic course. There’s also set to be clinics on the range and the chance to win spot prizes from 11am, and food will be available for spectators from a pizza truck and the halfway house.

Players confirmed for the professional team include Porsche European Open winner Marcus Armitage, Open de France and Joburg Open winner Dan Bradbury, ISPS HANDA World Invitational winner Dan Brown, ISPS Handa World Invitational and Ras Al Khaimah Championship winner Dan Gavins, and AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open winner John Parry. They’ll be joined by Nick Marsh, George Ash, Sam Bairstow, Joe Dean, George Mason, and special invitee Marco Penge.

Chris Hanson, playing captain for the 2020protour team, said: “We’re excited for the second instalment of the match, and it’s sure to be a fantastic opportunity to see many of the best golfers from Yorkshire up close and for free.

“For the amateur team, it’s a great opportunity to test themselves against some of the best players around. Personally, I can’t wait to get together with so many guys I know so well. This will be an awesome showcase of Yorkshire golf, with so much going on around the matches too. We can’t thank the players, YUGC and Ganton enough for coming together and making this happen. Let’s hope it’s as good a match as the first one – as long as we come out on top again!”

The match result will be determined by the overall number of holes up/down in each game, and live scoring will be available via Golf Genius and the 2020protour website. Last time out, the professional team won a close series of matches with a cumulative score of 6up.

The YUGC men’s team will be confirmed ahead of the match, and captain David Appleyard is expecting a big turnout for the encounter. He said: “The first match was a great contest and we’re looking forward to following up that successful event with another great showcase of Yorkshire golf.

“For our players, this is an opportunity to compete against top professionals with an incredible collection of wins between them. It’ll be competitive for sure, but these guys all know each other and many of them are on the same pathway. It’ll be a good early season test for us, and we’ll give them as good as they got last time. A big crowd will make it a memorable occasion and a great celebration of what the county does on the global golfing stage.”
